People in quieter office spaces were less stressed and the noisier the office up until 50 decibels. The greater was their physiological well-being, says Professor Stonberg. It might have something to do with the fact that the brain is a difference detector. If it's very quiet you can hear a pin drop and that can cause a startle response. So we are all hardwired to have this startle response if there's a sudden change in the environment.
