Michael Zakeem: In the 19th century, clothing was a symbol of American democracy. He says people didn't go shopping for clothes; they'd have to sew them up themselves. Henry Brooks saw an opportunity when he opened a shop selling second-hand goods. The store's name is now in honor of him and his business model.
