Is the Game Ain't Worth the Candle in the Middle East?
i would like to get to the east asia problem eventually, but ye, i think that, look, here's the problem, right? We were told that chinese accession into the global economy in the late 19 nineties was basically modernization theory. They're gong to develop a growing middle class. Historically, growing middle classes have demanded greater political rights inside china. Then that relatively more liberal politics is going to plug into some kind of hoki version of the democratic peace theory. And if it is the latter, then east asia is headed for trouble. Sowhat, what i'm focused on in the near term is saying, the game ain't worth the candle
