It's a bolmanisation of uppit and just get rid of the gods. But more seriously, it does seem to be an intentional move because shakespeare's not afraid of, like, touching on supernatural stuff. And even at an even deeper level, and this would strike probably sh Shakespeare's elizabethan audience very hard. Nobody in the play seems to think that the divine is the main point. Oh, by the way, we almost never see priests.
