The Threats to Lowercase Liberal Ideas Today

In the sixes and seventies, I found myself usually on the side of the trucks. They were communists, but they didn't like the Stalinists. So that's quite interesting. What do you see as some of the current challenges for lowercase out liberals? Let's pick out two: The great recession was a major setback for liberal ideas. And really, I think shook up the optimism that young people normally have about what the future might hold.
