What Happened to Violence in New York City?
In the early 90 19 nineties, a set of changes took place in New York that i look at as a kind of reclamation of public space. There was enhanced policing, much more aggressive policing. Activists and communty organizations formed to take back parks to march against violence. And so, you know, what i document in my book is that that mobilization of communty organizations played a causal role in reducing violence.
