In the 19th century, Baptist churches would send members to a person's place of work to inquire about their reputation. Jeff: In England, I had this practice and certainly the churches that spiritual planted adopted it as well. He says Spurgeon urged his students to have no church unless it was a real one. "Keep your church real and effective or make no report," he said.
