Is There a Drawback to Service Dogs?
The author has studied animal assisted interventions for kids with atism. She says service dogs make visible what is essentially an invisible disability. The biggest drawback, or challenge, that they do bring up is that nobody notices them in the same way without a dog. But when they have their dog, people tend to love dogs and want to say hello - so it draws attention to them.
