I think the system can't work if you don't believe in human agency. The second they put on those uniforms, they are inhabited by the ghost of Jim Crow and racism or fugitive slave patrols. Those black people have no agency whatsoever to make humane, decent choices because the system itself is racist. And I think that the people who are on the other side of this argument are just utterly oblivious to the damage that they're doing to the country. So anyway, I've gone way too long.
