The remains of the siege works correlate quite well with josephus description of the siege. It's not even clear that they were all necessarily jewish rebels. There was no mass grave for them to be cremated or buried somewhere in a mass grave. And what he thought there was is fairly literally how edin explained the absence of skeletal remains after the siege ended. Now let's just imagine that there was no mass death because romans broke through the fortifications and found these dead bodies lying around.
