The Importance of Self-Hail
Self-harm is an unhealthy coping mechanism associated with very powerful emotions, but it's not itself a mental illness. Some people hide the activity from others as they're frightened that they'll be labeled crazy. It can also be linked to a psychological state where an individual separates themselves from things around them and often as a way to cope with overwhelming distress. By the vast majority, self-harm is not an attempt to end life, but it is a means to live. So it's actually an outlet to live rather than to kill.
