Language Politics and the Common Turn
The commentery, i argue in the book, was a bolshevik tower of babel without a shared language to unite them. The socialist revolutionaries who assembled periodically at these commentern world congresses frequently experienced the task of plotting world wide revolution is nothing but an enormous headache. An earlier history of the common turn rarely paused to consider the linguistic obstacles that prevailed in this bolshevic led scheming for world wide revolution among a global proletariat. But it also allows us to better get at what we historians like to call lived experience.
