What Is the Essence of This Miracle?

This is actually the first sign in the gospel of John, the first miracle that John calls a sign. And I was thinking about what is the essence of this? The essence of this miracle is transformation. Jesus takes something that's very common and transforms it into something ordinary to extraordinary. That's exactly what Jesus is doing today in our midst. He takes us in our weakness, temptation from our families of origin and all of our stuff. And he encounters us and turns us into agents of reconciliation, justice and love.
