Starkweather took robert culvert for a ride outside a town. Starkweather shoved the shotgun into his back and ordered him to put the money from the register in the canvas bag. He then demanded the money in the safe, but culvert claimed to not have the combination. In reality, halbert was shot in the chest, point blank, again point blank in the back of the head by starkweather.
