The Story of John Rongfaz
In late 1943, he's age 16, he becomes a staff employee in the head office in Taipei. These late warriors saw a lot of staff shortages as most of the Japanese had been conscripted into the army. Many poor Taiwanese families tried to get promoted from the lowly C-class up to the B-class and John Rongfaz family, no exception. They took Nagashima as their family name, and he got the personal name of Hatsu. The war is tough, but it did create some opportunities for Taiwanese.
