The Importance of Sharing Technology
I think people are often imagining that a single entity somewhat smarter than a human will be able to quickly use technologies that are somewhat better than current human technologies. This seems to be mistaking the actions of a human and theactions of a human society. Each individual person is adding essentially nothing in terms of technology, so twice that is still basically nothing. They just get a larger piece of that same shared technological bounty purchasable by anyone. There might be places you can get far ahead of humanity by being better than a single human. But even if you are an ambitious, somewhat superhuman intelligence, the influence available to you seems to plausibly be limited to making a large dent in the effort required
