The Impossibility of Being a Scientist
In the 17th century, Galileo made a radical decision to put consciousness out of science. He said that if we want science to be purely mathematical, we have to take consciousness outside of the domain of science so that we can capture everything else in mathematics. That was the start of mathematical physics, which has gone really well and produced extraordinary technology. But it wasn't supposed to be a complete description reality. And so I think if we wanna bring consciousness into the story of science, we need to rethink that picture of reality bequeathed to us by Galileo.
