Phonemic Awareness and Phonics
When we refer to phonemic awareness, we are talking about that understanding that spoken words are made up of individual sounds. Phonics is going to enjoy a reciprocal relationship with phonemic awareness but it is important for us to understand they're not the same thing. They are different in that we can hear 44 sounds in the English language and there's over 200 ways to represent them.
