Why Christians Should Care About Institutions, Right?
i think christians can respond, one in the way you just describe, by strengthening civil society. Free and fair elections, a free press, a judiciary that acts responsibly and transparently. We as christian citizens should be calling forth a supporting, critiquing when those democratic institutions aren't acting at their best,. or defending them when they are being under assault.
