Sandy's Story

By the time she was 17, Sandy was pregnant. She got married and gave birth to her son, Billy. But she didn't have a lot of money. Other people did. In 1964, she was arrested for the first time and sent to the Los Angeles County Jail. That year, Czech forgery was the most common crime committed by women. The thing about jail is it's really scary until you go. And then it's not scary at all because, like, I guess, like jumping out of an airplane, you know, it's really frightening until you do it.
