The Problem With Social Housing
New rentals is more like 10%. So if you're taking out a new lease, it's much higher than the official figures. And people are really, really struggling. This is why we had social housing in the first place. We now spend more on housing benefit than we do on most government departments. It's wild. In yet, the local housing allowance is well below market value as well. so it's very difficult for people to go into the private rented sector and be able to compete with those who are maybe not on that system.
