There are entire programs funded by big agencies, national science foundation and now Department of Energy, they add earmarks to diversity and diversity. And in this way, you can get graduate fellowship, not necessarily based on the basis of your merit, but based on your diversity status. So faculty candidates nowadays, in most places, I expected to provide diversity statement that has the same feel as this.
