Silicon Valley Bank's deposits jumped from 61.8 billion at the end of 2019 to 189 billion by 2021. The bank bought over $80 billion in mortgage backsecurities, MBS like US Treasuries. And then you know what happened? The Fed raised rates at a faster pace than anybody could ever have imagined.
