In 1883, two women are found strangled to death in a barn. The patriarch of the family has been beaten profusely with a hammer and is paralyzed from the waist down. Six men rush to help him after he screams for help but find his wife and daughter already dead. "This seems like a pretty brutal scene," says one man who witnessed the crime.
