The Bakersfield Craft Mart Fire

Firefighters responded to two fires in Bakersfield within an hour of one another. The arsonists targeted retail stores along Highway 99, a major state highway that runs north-south through the central valley. A viable fingerprint was found on one of the incendiary devices but it did not match any criminal records. Investigators considered whether there could be any significance in the locations of the attacks as they were so close to California's Conference of Arsenologists. Captain Marvin Casey suggested the offender may have purposely targeted the area because of the conference.
