There's a view that lots of people have, that science has shown that people are really just machines that operate according to a code. And there's a religious view of people of having free will and being morally responsible which stands in considerable tension with that scientific understanding. We need many many complementary levels of insight and explanation and description to do justice to this very complex a biological organism that we are.
