The Church, a Frequent Target of Robin and His Merry Men

The church owned one third of the land in europe and wielded insane political power over the lity. A common path of the nobility for sons that wouldn't be inheriting their father's lands and titles, was to go into the church. While there were absolutely good and pious bishops, i think it's fair to say that during the middle ages, some of them might not have been there for the right reasons. And robin and his crew targeted bishops and others that were carrying the equivalent of thousands of dollars on their person.
