Obadiah's Prophecy Is Directed at Edom
Obadiah is the shortest book in all of Scripture with just 21 verses. Verses 1 through 9 address the coming judgment on Edom and its certainty. The overarching truth we need to take from this debate is that Edom was not a good neighbor to Judah. They treated Israel like enemies when they should have treated them as neighbors. One camp believes Obadiah's prophecy was a direct result of Edom's plundering Jerusalem after the Babylonians destroyed it. Another camp places Obadiah’s prophecy where we are currently in our chronological journey, which is around 850 BC.
