The Gospel Likes Crime and Detective Fiction
There are a number of different reasons why people read crime and detective fiction. And you certainly, I think, don't tend to read Chandler mainly for the plot of the puzzle. Part of the idea of the book is to encourage people to cast their net wide and read perhaps authors that they might not have thought were their cup of tea.
