What Makes a Chip Advanced Compared to Less Advanced Chip Technology?
TSMC's new business model didn't only work well for them, but it also made possible for startups to envision bringing new ideas to the market without having to invest $20 billion in building a chip making facility. The key question is how much computing power that chip has and computing power is largely a factor of the number of transistors on each chip. Shrinking transistors, that's delivered the advances in computing power known as Moore's law.
