The Future of Rocket Fuel on the Moon
If the moon is where we'll get a lot of our fuel and raw materials for expansion out into the solar system, using fuel systems that can be refilled at the destinations or waypoints is a good plan. Producing Thormite on the moon and processing into rocket fuel is a relatively simple process. There's no air on the moon, so even some lava tube shaft repurposed and short up to serve as a long runway is a possible option. This would still apply to water or any alternative fuel like methane. But if it turns out we are wrong about the hydrogen and water supply on the Moon, it just shows we have different options too.
