Filmed Musicals - What's the Difference?

I want to dive a little deeper into that idea of combining different elements beause what strikes me about the film is you have this smash up, really, of age work and traditional musical numbers. And i'm curious, on those scenes where it's more complicated back and forth, how much of that was scripted versus something that you discovered in the editing process? S om mix. I think a lot of times filmed musical get preoccupied with the thesis, or conceit, of how we're going to incorporate the musical numbers...
