What's the Glottal Stop?

In Arabic, no word may begin with anything except a consonant. So they just put a glottal stop in there. And it only happens at the beginning of an utterance or after a pause. In Spanish, if two vowels come close together across a word but boundary, they actually blend together. There's a special rule for elision for that and for one or two other words.
