The History of Kabbalism

Kabbalah draws on a long-standing tradition of mystical literature. In part because of its late antique sources of inspiration, kabala offers a revival of ideas from antiquity. Kabbalists built on the philosophical writings of men like Ibn Gabbirol and Abraham. They transmitted Neoplatonic ideas about ineffability of God.
