What Is the Interaction Effect Between Institutional Analysis and Democracy?
When you came out of WashU you were working on some very important ideas having to do with veto players in particular. When I got to IU the where the Ostrom's were so sensitive to the way in which people governed that it made me start to think even more about how we put in place mechanisms that allow us to challenge and slow things down. It was that out of control democratic power that almost all the core theory was talking about but as we introduced all of these other components like veto power all of a sudden you have possibilities and different kinds of outcomes that you can predict, he says.
