I think the important reason to be concerned about future AI systems is that power decreases the margin for error. The more power you inject into a system, the more capable they become. It turns out if they're only slightly misaligned with us, slightly different to us in values, they can have big consequences. So we have to be very careful when we get to very large powerful systems.
