The Most Photographed American of the Nineteenth Century

The first photograph ever taken happened in 18 26. Frederick douglas was the most graphed american of the nineteenth century. He wanted all attention to be on his face, as he put it, the face of a fugitive slave. In many of the photos, he stares directly into the camera, which was actually not common at the time.
