The Importance of Preference in Relationships
Sally Kohn: We just sort of say something as like a preference, but it's not actually specific in terms of, no, I really would prefer it if you didn't do that thing. She says the difference between expressing a preference and making a specific request is important to make sure people are clear about what agreements they have with each other. "I can have preferences of what my partners will and won't do, but that doesn't necessarily mean that those are deal breakers for us being in relationship"
