The term he then itself becomes itself a marker of bad religion by the early 20th century. So it's really only fundamentalists and other Christian conservatives who continue to use the term seriously after that. But even though the term itself drops precipitously out of use, I argue that the ideas underlying it do not. Instead they get transumed into other secular terms which signify basically the same things.
