When you are judging your peers for Oscar or Ace consideration, what are you thinking about? I'm thinking about how the film affects me. If I'm really emotionally affected or really enjoy it and really respond to something, that's what it's about. Of course, being a debtor, I notice the editing, I notice that aspect of it, but that's not the driving force of what I think makes a great film. They're the quote unquote presence on it. It's like in a way, in sort of like the absence of its presence can be a strength. And then actually, directly after turning the disaster, I did the People versus Larry Flint with Mules Vermon
