Learning From Slave Students

I think it's really important to be creating opportunities to learn from our students and to learn their stories. We don't know their educational backgrounds or what they've experienced before coming to our classrooms. It's particularly important for slave students who might have had gaps in their formal education. And this is the other part of what I wanted to touch on: How do we recognize, honor, value those strengths?
