The Concept of Treating the Patient

The concept of technology over reason has led to this prevailing tenant in my career. We can make a diagnosis by doing the things that we learned in medical school, which is just taking a history and understanding the natural history of disease. Using tests should be an adjunct to care, not to replace taking a history,. Whatever objective tests such as radiographs need to be done. You can make a determination. There isn't anyone I know who's ever taken an MRI and said that they feel better after taking the MRI, right? It's not therapeutic, but from a psychological perspective, patients have this need that if I don't get an MRI, then we're less of a physician.
