In the U.K., students from selective secondary schools are much more likely to be accepted by the best universities. But this benefit largely disappears after controlling for other selection factors. In America, parents spend hundreds of thousands of dollars getting their kids into the right schools. The reason he kids do so much better is they selected kids who are better at school. Achievement test scores are better and they're more intelligent too.
