Is There a Growth Mindset?

Paul Cezanne is one of my favorite artists and set the stage for much of modern art. I once went to an exhibit in London of Paul Cezanne's early paintings. They were overwrought scenes, some violent, with amateurishly painted people. Was the early Cezanne not talented, or did it just take time for him to become Cezanne?
