The Importance of Free Speech in Local Cases
I think free speech is essentially the equivalent of sunlight spread on bad ideas. It's such a reliable mechanism for bringing bad ideas to light and criticizing them. I'm not sure that, you know, if you're saying there is no case where a restriction of freedom of speech is justified, then I disagree. Not that I really want to see a law against those cartoons. That might be a step too far. But I would, if I were an editor and I were aware that they would cause the death of hundreds of innocent people, I would choose not to publishthose cartoons.
