Can Things Be Infinitely Divisible?
When something is complex, to understand it fully, one really promising method is to break it down into the simplest parts possible. And this is why the issue of substance is so important to these philosophers. What material or what thing can be understood on its own without having to refer to something else? In the case of the universe, oftentimes that meant breaking things down the smallest particle imaginable - maybe not even a particle.
