At this time, none of the universities accepted women as students or teachers. Some might go and attend classes and study, but they were not admitted as students. But there were some women who were members of universities. So these young men lived in an environment with very fe women. Now, finally, in late 12 hundreds, some benefactors started to found colleges at universities. The first, it seems, was the sorbonn college at the university of paris; then shortly after, merton college at oxford.
