Darwin's Doubt: How to Build an Animal

Darwin saw even in his day, he saw this. The ancestral precursors have not turned up in the pre-Cambrian layers. In the Cambrian, we've discovered many more exotic creatures with lots of intricate organs and structures that were unknown to Darwin. How can natural selection acting on random changes, random mutations, generate whole new stretches of functional genetic code?
