The Problem With Generalization Findings
When you have poor samples, think about someone who is trying to do something as simple as estimate what a mean is or a rate of occurrence of something. Bad samples lead to problems with internal validity, problems with external validity. People are fooled by this all the time because this translates into some soundbite headline. It passes for research in the consumer's eyes and it gets promoted to truth.
