New Zealand Fugitive Nayan Shwaite Was Arrested in the Murder of His Wife Anan

Nayan Shwaite was charged with the murder of his wife Anan Laiore, and a bail was denied. As he had already overstayed the 90-day visit permitted under the Visa Waiver Program, he could be deported back to New Zealand without need for lengthy extradition process. He arrived on Monday, March 10, 2008, and appeared before a judge the same day. A preliminary hearing to determine whether there was enough evidence to send Shwaite a trial was scheduled for September. The prosecution presented evidence that after a series of escalating violent incidents, Anan had died of ligature strangulation at the hands of her husband.
